MALMERENDAS BOUTIQUE LODGING

Aveiro & Coimbra

In 1759, by Royal decret of April 11, D. José I elevated Aveiro to the degree of city!

Ilha Dos Puxadoiros

The arms of the Ria de Aveiro that extend in canals throughout the city make Aveiro the “Venice of Portugal”. The harvest of “moliço” in the Ria de Aveiro, to fertilize the lands, gave birth to its icon, the Moliceiro boat!

It is also in Aveiro that there are numerous buildings of the aesthetic style Art-Nova, which is characterized by organic and naturalistic forms, which in Portugal appeared late, already at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Coimbra was the birthplace of six kings of Portugal, of the First Dynasty, as well as of the first University of the country and one of the oldest in Europe.

Coimbr e o rio Mondego

City of narrow streets, courtyards, ladders and medieval arches, was the capital of Portugal before Lisbon, until 1255, and in it is the first National Pantheon, the Monastery of Santa Cruz.

Coimbra is a historically university city, because of the University of Coimbra, founded in 1290 as General Study Portuguese by D. Dinis in Lisbon that after several installations in the two cities, settled definitively in the city of Mondego in 1537.
